  2. 1990).  This manual begins like this: "First the bad news: TeX is a
  3. large and complicated program that goes to extraordinary lengths to
  4. produce attractive typeset material.  This very complication can cause
  5. unexpected things to happen at times.  Now the good news:  straight-
  6. forward text is very easy to typeset using TeX.  So it's possible to
  7. start with easier text and work up to more complicated situations.  The
  8. purpose of this manual is to start from the very beginning and to move
  9. towards these more complicated situations.  No previous knowledge of TeX
  10. is assumed."  That sounds good to me!  TeX, DVI, and PostScript
  11. formatted copies of this file are included.  Almost 1.3 meg uncompressed
  12. so I am leaving it as a plain .ZIP file in case any of you wish to
  13. uncompress it onto two floppies.  Use STZIP23 or DCXTR22B to uncompress.
